DeepSeek vs Claude: Pricing, Models & When to Use Each
DeepSeek and Claude make very different trade-offs. DeepSeek's V4 line is priced for volume and long context; Anthropic's Claude lineup runs from the Haiku speed tier up to Opus- and Fable-class models for the hardest agentic work. Here is every model from both families that ATP serves, with prices, capabilities, documented context, and a calculator that prices the same workload on each.

When to pick which
Where each family tends to fit, based on what the vendors document. Facts beyond our prices are cited under Sources.
Pick DeepSeek for
- Bulk text work — extraction, classification, summarization, RAG answers — where the per-token rate decides the model. V4 Flash is DeepSeek's throughput tier for high-concurrency workloads.
- Reasoning-heavy coding, math and analysis on a tighter budget. DeepSeek documents V4 Pro with thinking mode on by default (switchable off per request) and up to 384K output tokens.
- Long-context synthesis over large document or code sets: both V4 models document a 1M-token context window.
- Editor-style fill-in-the-middle code completion, which DeepSeek supports in non-thinking mode.
Pick Claude for
- Agentic coding across the whole lifecycle — planning, implementation, debugging, large refactors. Anthropic positions Claude Sonnet 5 as its most agentic Sonnet and reports it closing much of the gap to Opus 4.8 on agentic and coding evaluations.
- Agents that drive browsers, terminals and real software. Computer use is a documented focus of Sonnet 4.6, Sonnet 5 and Opus 4.8.
- The hardest long-horizon reasoning and research, where a failed run costs more than the rate premium: Opus 4.8 and Fable 5. Fable 5 runs adaptive thinking always on, and its safety classifiers can decline a request — Anthropic returns those refusals unbilled, so integrations should handle that stop reason.
- High-volume chat, support and sub-agent work that still needs Claude behavior: Haiku 4.5, which Anthropic documents with a 200K context.
Use both under one key
You rarely have to choose just one. On ATP both families sit behind one endpoint and one project key — so you can route each task to the model that fits and still keep one budget, one allowlist and one log.
- One project key — spend and revocation bound to one project
- Model allowlist — only the ids you enable can be called; others return 403
- Project budget — credits are allocated down org → workspace → project, so the allocation is the cap
- Per-request logs and one bill — model, key, project and credits for every call, across both vendors

Questions teams ask
FAQ
- Which is cheaper, DeepSeek or Claude?
- At ATP prices (USD per 1M tokens), DeepSeek runs from $0.20 / $0.40 on deepseek-v4-flash to $2.40 / $4.80 on deepseek-v4-pro; Claude runs from $1.00 / $5.00 on claude-haiku-4-5 to $10.00 / $50.00 on claude-fable-5. Which one costs less for you depends on your input/output mix and which tier you need — the calculator on this page prices the same workload on every model.
- Which has the longer context window, DeepSeek or Claude?
- Documented context windows — DeepSeek: DeepSeek V4 Pro 1M, DeepSeek V4 Flash 1M. Claude: Claude Opus 5 1M, Claude Opus 4.8 1M, Claude Opus 4.7 1M, Claude Sonnet 5 1M, Claude Haiku 4.5 200K. —: not published by the vendor.
- Which is better for coding, DeepSeek or Claude?
- We don't publish our own rankings. Anthropic positions Claude Sonnet 5 and Opus 4.8 for agentic coding; DeepSeek positions V4 Pro for reasoning-heavy coding at a lower rate and supports fill-in-the-middle completion on V4 Flash. A common pattern is to send routine steps to the cheaper model and escalate hard ones — our best-LLM-for-coding guide prices that split.
- Can I use DeepSeek and Claude with one API key?
- Yes. On ATP both families sit behind the same OpenAI-compatible endpoint (https://api.atptoken.ai/v1), and Anthropic-format clients can use /v1/messages. One project key calls any model on that project's allowlist; every request lands in the same per-request log and debits the same credit balance.
- How do I keep a team on the models we approved?
- Use the project's model allowlist: enable only the model ids you approved, and calls to any other id are refused with 403. Give the project its own credit allocation so the budget is the ceiling, and review spend per model in the per-request logs.
